Found Metal, papers, antique earring, copper, cedar souvenir box, watercolor sky, snail shell from my yard, wire, cotton crochet star, feathers from my chickens, smashed okra pod from my garden, abalone shell, blue glass, blue plastic aquarium plant. This has a companion piece called “Strength”.

Clowning Around

I finally have a place to display my bread wrapper tag collection

corsages for my dead mother; a series of found assemblage brooches

This new series combines a variety of found objects I have gathered over the past year or so.  Crab claws, stems and peelings from fruits and vegetables, combine with altered cutlery to create a series of assemblage brooches I have titled Corsages For My Dead Mother.

Each piece is approximately 3” wide x 4” tall. 2014.

I just finished a week sharing my art and my process with the children at Patchwork Central, where most of the time the children see me as the Co-Director and camera lady.

It was fun to share my sculpture with them, and it was very fun to see the art that they created. It was also great to work again with my friend and fellow artist Jane Case Vickers. I started my career in community art almost 18 years ago by teaching art as Jane’s assistant in Patchwork’s Arts & Smarts Children’s Program.

I was very glad to get to teach with Jane again–I think she’s a great artist and a great teacher. We’ve always been attracted to similar materials and have similar artistic inspirations. We’ve done several projects and exhibits together.

Drying Up

This watercolor was painted form an image my uncle terry took last August. David and I were biking that evening and commented on the sky and tried to snap a pic with his phone. This didn’t turn out, but I was thrilled to see my uncle had caught it well.
